Contrary to previous reports I was not raised by wolves after his parents were abducted by aliens. Rather I grew up in Bangor Maine with mom, a teacher, dad, a social worker, two sisters a dog or two, and a bunch of nice neighbors. I went to Bangor High School where I was a very good student and was active in debate, chess and tennis (the three events where there was a physical barrier between me and any opponent!) I had lots of very good teachers (not all of whom I appreciated at the time).

If you just have to know all about Bangor, click here.

From there I went to college at Johns Hopkins, where I majored in Biology taking large numbers of bio and chem courses and working in a cell biology lab many hours a week. I went to grad school at The University of North Carolina, earning an M.A.T. in science education.

I taught chemistry for 11 years at a small (at least it was small then) high school in semi-rural North Carolina. I was very lucky to have some great administrators and coworkers and I learned a great deal about being a pretty decent teacher. In my fifth year I was named state teacher of the year but did not win the national title, largely due to a "mishap" with the swimsuit competition.

I have taught at Wissahickon for 11 years now, primarily chemistry.

Here are some of my favorite books.

My wife is a health economist and my daughter is 10 and loves dance and music.

My main hobby is collecting slide rules. My wife is very good put up with me.

Go to the side rule page for more on this hobby (some would say obsession).

I am also a big Red Sox  fan.

Below are images of books I have co-authored.
